The Short Answer
Reach The Deep from the Castaway Cliffs route with suitable diving and movement equipment, obtain the inactive Deep Survey Device from the entrance NPC, descend to Deep City, repair and upgrade the device, then restore the sector pillars and complete the side tasks shown by the city's NPCs. The final quest may remain locked until every linked requirement is recorded.
This checklist was verified against August quest evidence on September 3, 2026. Fisch has already adjusted this update, so use the live NPC text for exact materials and counts.
Prepare the Entry Loadout
Bring diving gear, an oxygen solution, flippers or equivalent movement support, and the traversal item required by the current route. Keep several inventory slots open for device parts, quest fish, and materials. If one item is missing, solve that before making the long trip; The Deep is not an efficient place to discover that the character cannot survive or move through the next section.
Start near Castaway Cliffs and follow the current northern ocean route until the transition into The Deep becomes available. Old coordinates can help with orientation, but the live region transition and ship landmark are stronger evidence than a copied number.
Get and Repair the Survey Device
At the entrance ship, speak with Cadet Shimmerfin and accept the inactive Deep Survey Device. Confirm it is present before descending. Travel down to Deep City and follow the repair objective shown in the task log.
Treat the device levels as gates:
- The inactive device begins the chain.
- The repaired MK I state supports the first sector work.
- The later MK II state opens or supports deeper progression.
If an NPC ignores you, equip the required device and check whether the previous repair dialogue finished. Owning the component is not always the same as submitting it.
Restore the Sector Pillars
Speak with Chief Engineer Nereus and use the task tracker to restore the required pillars or beacons. Work through them one at a time, confirming the tracker changes after each interaction. This makes it easier to identify one failed sector instead of repeating the whole route.
Before leaving a sector, record:
- Pillar or beacon name.
- Required material or catch.
- Whether the interaction consumed it.
- Whether the quest count advanced.
Do not publish or follow a fixed material table without its date. A hotfix can change one component while the overall route remains the same.
Complete the City and Crevice Tasks
After the first restoration stage, return to the city NPCs and read the newly available objectives. Upgrade the Survey Device when instructed, then move into the Gloomy Crevice or other named sub-location only when the tracker sends you there.
Several tasks mix fishing conditions, equipment crafting, and NPC handoffs. Keep quest catches until credit is visible. When a fish or material does not count, verify the sub-location, required mutation or quality, and the equipped tool before farming another copy.
Unlock the Final Quest
Players have reported reaching the final NPC after completing the obvious main route while one hidden prerequisite remains. If the final quest does not start, audit every category rather than repeating only the pillars:
- Survey Device is at the required version.
- Every pillar or beacon shows complete.
- Required city side quests were turned in, not merely collected.
- Required rods, harpoons, or crafted equipment are owned if the live text lists them.
- Special catches still satisfy the current quality or mutation rule.
- The final dialogue was revisited after the last handoff.
The live quest log is authoritative. Community checklists help reveal missing categories, but they cannot prove that a silent update kept every number.
Keep a Material Checklist That Survives Updates
Use four columns: task, live requirement, acquired, submitted. This separates “I found it” from “the game recorded it.” Add the date and current version at the top. When a patch changes one item, update that row instead of discarding the entire route.
The Deep is a long chain, so progress evidence matters. Capture the tracker after each major handoff and keep rare quest items until the next stage opens. That habit prevents most avoidable repeats and produces a clear report if the quest is genuinely stuck.
