The Short Answer

Rod of the Singularity is the end of a linked Astral Observatory route, not a direct shop purchase. Prepare access to the Observatory and hidden fishing areas, complete Corvus's task to obtain the Dyson Sphere, catch the five quest fish from their required areas, then finish Merlin's Collapse step. Claim the rod only after both quest chains show complete.

This sequence was checked on September 3, 2026. Exact rod stats, mutation values, and quest quantities can change; the acquisition gates are the focus here.

Prepare Before Starting Corvus

Finish enough of the Astral Observatory setup to move through its connected areas and NPC tasks. Bring the movement, diving, or access equipment required by the hidden locations you have already unlocked. Keep inventory space available and avoid selling a quest fish until the task records it.

Before leaving the Observatory, take a screenshot or note of the current Corvus objective. This quest spans several places, and remembering the intended fish from an older guide is less reliable than the live tracker.

If your telescope or anomaly setup is incomplete, use the Astral Observatory telescope guide first.

Complete the Corvus and Dyson Sphere Step

Find Corvus in the Astral Cavern and accept the current task. Complete every requirement shown by the NPC rather than jumping directly to Merlin. The key handoff is the Dyson Sphere: if it has not been awarded or recognized, the later route will not behave like a fresh Singularity quest.

After receiving it, re-open the quest UI and verify that Corvus is marked complete. Do not rely only on the item being visible in the inventory; linked quests often need the dialogue or completion interaction as well.

Catch the Five Hidden-Area Fish

The next stage sends you to five distinct hidden fishing areas. Use the live task names as a checklist and complete one area at a time. For each fish:

  1. Enter the correct sub-location, not merely its parent island.
  2. Confirm the task tracker still names that fish or area.
  3. Meet any weather, time, bait, or event condition shown in the current Bestiary.
  4. Keep the catch until the tracker advances.

If the catch does not count, first check location boundaries and mutation or condition requirements. Rejoining should be a last diagnostic step, not the first recommendation.

Finish Merlin's Collapse Quest

Return to Merlin only after the required fish are recorded and the Dyson Sphere stage is complete. Read the current Collapse dialogue carefully; this is where players commonly reach the right NPC with one earlier step still unconfirmed.

If Merlin does not advance the quest, compare these states:

  • Corvus dialogue is complete, not only the item pickup.
  • The Dyson Sphere is present or registered by the quest.
  • All five fish show credit in the live tracker.
  • You are speaking to the correct Merlin interaction for the Astral chain.
  • No required quest item was sold, traded, or left unclaimed.

Claim and Verify the Rod

When the final dialogue completes, verify the rod appears in the correct equipment inventory and that the quest no longer shows an unfinished stage. Equip it in a safe area and read the live stat card before spending on enchants or building a money route around it.

The Astral release gave the rod strong high-end appeal, but a balance update can change that value without changing the quest. Keep “how to obtain it” separate from “is it currently best.” This page will update the route when gates change rather than preserving an obsolete multiplier table.

Fast Failure Checklist

When the reward is missing, write down the exact incomplete step, the five tracker states, the Dyson Sphere state, and Merlin's current line. That evidence is more useful than repeating the entire chain. If every state is complete but the rod is still absent, capture the current version and report the issue through the game's official support path.
