The Short Answer
The Astral Observatory telescope needs four things before it can start an event: the telescope setup must be complete, a lens must be equipped, a usable battery must power the device, and the server must be at night with no other Astral Anomaly already active. Talk to Astronomer Vega when the telescope is incomplete or when you need to craft and equip a lens.
This route was checked on September 3, 2026. Treat the live quest text and telescope prompt as authoritative if an update changes a material quantity, bonus, or interaction.
Finish the Telescope Setup First
Go to the Astral Observatory laboratory and speak with Astronomer Vega. If the telescope is still an inactive prop, continue Vega's setup task rather than trying to insert a lens immediately. The early task sends you to obtain Battery Casings and return them to the laboratory.
Keep the telescope's three requirements separate:
- The setup quest unlocks the working device.
- A battery powers an activation.
- A lens decides which anomaly the telescope attempts to start.
Having a lens in your inventory does not prove that the telescope is powered or that the correct lens is equipped.
Choose One of the Five Lenses
Four lenses are crafted through Vega: Moonlit, Experimental, Seasonal, and Deep. The Stellar Lens comes from Brayden's separate Broken Stars quest, so do not wait for Vega to offer a Stellar recipe.
Choose the lens for the server effect you actually need, then equip it through the laboratory interaction. The names and bonuses can be rebalanced; confirm the tooltip before consuming materials. Only one anomaly can run at a time, so coordinating with the server is more reliable than repeatedly activating competing effects.
Start the Anomaly at Night
Return to the telescope after the selected lens is equipped and a battery is available. Wait for night and interact with the device. A successful activation should create the matching server-wide Astral Anomaly rather than a private effect for one player.
Plan the activity before activating it. If the anomaly is meant to help a quest, mutation hunt, meteor route, XP session, or a specific NPC appearance, move the group into position first. Night is a limited operating window, and travel after activation wastes much of it.
Why the Telescope Is Not Working
Check these blockers in order:
- It is daytime. The current system only starts an anomaly at night.
- Another anomaly is active. Wait for it to finish rather than assuming your lens failed.
- The lens is owned but not equipped. Use the laboratory interaction to select it.
- The telescope setup is incomplete. Return to Vega and read the current objective.
- The battery step is missing. Check the telescope prompt and your quest state.
- The server changed state during the attempt. Re-read the live UI before spending another resource.
Do not use an old bonus table as the main troubleshooting tool. Operation state matters before the percentage attached to the event.
Use the Stellar Lens for Its Separate Route
The Stellar Lens is the exception in the set. Start Brayden's quest at Boreal Pines and collect the six Broken Stars identified by the live quest. Return only after the task marks every star complete. Once the lens is awarded, equip it at the laboratory like the other lenses.
If a later quest or NPC requires the Stellar anomaly, activate that lens at night and confirm the sky event before searching. This prevents a long NPC or item hunt in a server that never entered the required state.
A Safe Activation Checklist
Before using the telescope, confirm the current version, quest completion, equipped lens, battery state, time of day, and active server event. Then tell other players which anomaly is starting and what task it supports. If the activation fails, record the exact prompt rather than immediately crafting another lens.
